The international arm of SkillSonics was founded in Zurich in 2012. The company’s origins go back to the pilot project of the Swiss Vocational Education and Training Initiative India (SVETII). The initiative, a public-private partnership, was officially launched by Swiss Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard on the occasion of the 60-year anniversary of the Indo-Swiss Friendship and Establishment Treaty in 2008. The pilot project was initially based at the Swiss-Indian Chamber of Commerce (SICC) and implemented by SkillSonics core team in collaboration with the association of the Swiss Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Industries (Swissmem), the Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (SFIVET) and renowned companies operating in India such as ABB, Bobst, Bühler, Burckhardt Compression, Holcim (ACC, Ambuja Cements), Rieter, Starrag, GMM Pfaudler and EFD Induction, as well as other select partners in India and Switzerland. The Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) co-sponsored the project. In light of the pilot project's success and a growing interest in skills development in India, the Swiss project partners decided to expand the SVETII through a company based in India and Switzerland. SkillSonics whose team led the SVETII from its inception was formed to manage all aspects of the project roll-out.
